Hope you enjoyed looking around this site. I became interested in collecting Rangers after I learned about the Gilbert Shelton connection. I used to read the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and never knew  Gilbert had gotten his start at Texas. The 1962 issues contain the earliest appearances of Wonder Wart-Hog although the he also appeared in another short lived UT publication called the Bacchanal. The old articles and pictures of Austin as well as the old Ads really make them collectible. I would like to expand the site to include issues I do not have so if you would like to sell or lend them to me

Tim Stinson

I wrote for the Texas Ranger in 1962, when Gilbert Shelton was the Editor and Janis Joplin was a co-conspirator. The Bacchanal was started by Shelton when the whole staff was fired over a bit of art illustrating censorship as prison bars. The bars spelled out several words beginning with "f" and "censorship." Your e-mail form is not working, so here is why I'm writing - - RE: Texas Ranger Nov. 1962 - can you please check to see if my name is in the staff credits page with Janis Joplin: Tim Stinson? I was a writer on the staff with Gilbert Shelton and Janis. I'll probably buy it if it shows both of us together. I already have the previous month's Texas Ranger Oct. 1962, and my credit and Janis' are on that page. An article by John Clay about the folk music boom had a pic of Janis with her auto harp. If you don't mind, could you check the months on either side for my name alone (Janis wrote for a very short time - she had other interests at the time): Sept. 1962 and Dec. 1962. Thanx.
